If you head in the direction opposite of the Colosseum you will get to San Giovanni, where you can have a look at the Basilica of St. John Lateran. After that you can head down Via Appia, which isn’t a pretty street by all means, where you find some very good shops. There is also a new and used clothes market near the basilica.
